SOUTH WEST WATER PUMPS 544,439 HOURS WORTH OF SEWAGE AS LIB DEM MP FOR TORBAY WARNS ‘OFWAT MUST GO’
Last year, South West Water pumped 544,439 hours worth of sewage into waterways, according to new data published this week.
The residents of Torbay are becoming increasingly worried about the sewage being dumped on several local beaches, including Meadfoot Beach, Beacon Cove and Preston Sands, which have experienced this issue before.
The Liberal Democrats are calling for the government to replace Ofwat with a new regulator with proper enforcement powers to hold water companies accountable and put a stop to the sewage scandal.
Steve Darling, Lib Dem MP for Torbay said:
“Here in Torbay, residents are appalled by the sewage dumping scandal all whilst facing sky-high water bills.
“The Government should act now to get a new regulator in place to protect British rivers and seas from being pumped with disgusting sewage. Ofwat must go.
“I and the Liberal Democrats will continue to protect Torbay’s beaches and fight for much tougher regulation of a water industry which is profiting from pollution.”
