Liberal Democrats in Torbay are demanding better for Paignton by establishing a police enquiry office for the town.
In recent weeks, enquiry offices have been set up in Honiton, Kingsbridge, Looe, Okehampton, Ilfracombe and Devonport all of which have much smaller populations than Paignton.
Paignton has a population of 67,488 and the crime rate in 2022 was 51 crimes per 1,000 people. This compares poorly to Devon's overall crime rate of 46 crimes per 1,000 residents.
The Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Torbay Cllr Steve Darling said “I am incredulous as to why the Police and Crime Commissioner is establishing Police Enquiry Offices in places such as Ilfracombe with a population of 11,042 which may be well deserving but there is no such plans for a service in Paignton. We have significantly higher levels of crime in Paignton and an easier way to engage with the Police at an enquiry office in the town centre is well overdue. I hope people will back our petition.”
Paignton police station closed in 2013, we demand better service.
